Flock Safety, the company behind the license-plate cameras now mounted at intersections in thousands of American towns, is hiring a Public Affairs Manager for Southern California. The job is to defend the company in public.
Represent Flock at city council meetings, public hearings, and community forums, delivering testimony and formal presentations. Build and sustain regional coalitions with influential community groups and third-party partners to support public safety policy initiatives.
Over the past year Flock's cameras have become a national fight. The network routed local plate data to federal agencies, including ICE, without some cities' authorization, with thousands of searches tied to immigration enforcement. More than 50 cities have canceled or rejected contracts. Protesters have physically torn cameras down in several states. The ACLU says the company has repeatedly misled the councils and police departments that buy it. In February, Amazon's Ring ended its partnership with Flock.
The public-affairs hire is not alone. Flock is also opening a Policy Manager and a Director of Digital Social Content Strategy. One works the council chambers, the other works the feed.
Into the air
While it defends the cameras on the ground, Flock is building the next ones in the air. In late 2024 it acquired Aerodome, a Drone as First Responder company, and it is now staffing the program. The postings include a UAS Support Engineer, a Senior Product Manager for Aviation, and a QA engineer for aviation, on top of a bench of device and kernel engineers to build the hardware.

Drone as First Responder means a drone launches on its own when a camera or a gunshot sensor flags an incident, and reaches the scene before an officer can. Flock has FAA waivers to fly them over entire cities. Its aviation posting frames the stakes in the company's own numbers. Last year, it says, Flock "supported over 1 million criminal investigations and helped locate more than 10,000 missing people."
The bet in the org chart
Flock is worth about $8.4 billion and its revenue is growing fast. Its bet is that it can grow straight through the backlash. It is hiring a public-affairs manager to hold the ground it already has and a drone team to take the next one. Flock is defending its cameras and teaching them to fly at the same time.
